2.1 The monitor
The monitor's back has a thin upper panel and a thicker lower spine. The spine carries a flip-out kickstand, two speakers and four brass threaded inserts in a square. Ports are on the left edge, controls on the right.
Which VESA pattern?
The listing photo of the back, taken near square-on, gave the first layout. The inserts form a square to within 1%. The question is the pitch, which sets the scale of the whole photo:
| Assumed pitch | Body width it implies | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| 50 mm | Narrower than the 344 mm active area of a 15.6" panel | Impossible |
| 75 mm | About 357 mm, just wider than the panel | Plausible |
| 100 mm | About 476 mm | Far too wide |
Only one standard pitch gives a plausible body, so the pattern is VESA 75. That means M4 screws.
Removing perspective
One mean scale read the width about 7 mm short. The body measured 1501 px at its bottom edge and 1465 px at its top, so the photo had perspective.
The script removes it with a homography fitted to the four body corners, which are far apart, and takes the scale from the 75 mm insert spacing. My first attempt fitted the homography to the four inserts instead. That small pattern extrapolated badly: two corners on one straight edge came out 6 mm apart in height. As a check, the final fit reads the four insert spacings at 74.69 to 75.31 mm.
Results (about ±2%): body 357.1 × 222.0 mm, lower inserts 13.6 mm above the bottom edge, upper inserts 88.6 mm, the back step at 96.4 mm.
What the photo cannot give
Thickness. A USB-C shell in an edge photo scales the spine to about 10 mm, but the mini HDMI port gives a different answer, so that value is good to about ±30%. The model carries SpineT = 10 mm and PanelT = 5 mm as guesses until callipers replace them.
Measured so far
The VESA gauge (3.1) confirmed the thread is M4 and the usable depth is 3.6 to 4.2 mm. That is shallow. Every M4 screw in this project is sized for 3.5 mm of thread or less, because a longer screw can press on the electronics behind the insert.
The model is parametric through its Params sheet, including an expression that opens the kickstand about its hinge. Its checks probe each insert pocket, each port opening and the kickstand at 0, 30, 60 and 90°.
