5 Stand v2: the PC behind the screen

Stand v2 from behind

The creep problem in B2 came from geometry: the support reached round the PC, so the screen hung on a long lever. The obvious move is to stop reaching round anything. Hang the PC on the back of the screen, and stand both on one short spine almost under the combined centre of gravity.

Two rules for v2 from the start:

  1. Every part prints on the A1 in its strong orientation.
  2. Every joint is designed: laps, holes, screw types and lengths. No fused overlaps.

The result in one table

Same method and loads as for B2 (0.8 kg monitor, 0.28 kg PC, solid sections, E = 3.3 GPa):

B2 Swoosh (120 × 8 mm band) V2 (60 × 12 mm spine)
Largest constant bending moment 1.72 N m 0.44 N m
Stress from it 1.35 MPa 0.30 MPa
Screen lean change under its own weight 0.87° 0.035°
Deflection at the screen's top under a 5 N push 4.5 mm 1.1 mm

Real prints are softer than solid sections and creep grows both columns over time, but the ratio holds: v2's constant lean change is about 25 times smaller.
